It’s easy to say that we are getting older and as such, we face more challenges but what do we do with that information? Do we pretend it doesn’t matter? Or do we take our fashion into our hands and be proactive about it?
Today, Margaret Manning speaks with fashion blogger and author Andrea Pflaumer about some of the best tips mature women can use to make style your best friend, rather than a plague you want to avoid.
Andrea discusses the following 5 tips and more in her book, Shopping for the Real You.
Use 3 Mirrors
Make mirrors your friend and don’t shy away from them. Every woman should have 3 types of mirrors.
Full-Length Mirror
For checking hemlines and overall appearance.
A Handheld Mirror
To see the back of her outfit. Use the handheld mirror along with the full-length mirror.
A Close up or Magnifying Mirror
For applying makeup or plucking your eyebrows.
Splurge on Shoes and Handbags
If you can only afford a few expensive items, Andrea says they should be shoes and handbags.
Your handbag will be one of the first things that people notice about your outfit. Your bag says so much about you. If you aren’t sure whether a handbag style suits you, Andrea suggests asking yourself, if the material in this bag were made into an entire piece of clothing, would I wear it? If your answer is yes, then it’s a perfect bag for you.
Good quality shoes will keep your feet from hurting and they will last much longer than cheap shoes.
Get a Good Haircut and Color
Someone once said that your hair is the hat you wear every day. That being said, it only makes sense to keep your “hat” looking its best! A good haircut is vital and maintaining it is just as important. Whether you choose to color your hair or join the “all natural” no-more-hair-coloring group, keeping your hair looking its best is one of the best ways to take advantage of your own personal style.
Keep Your Skin Healthy
Regardless of how expensive your Coach bag might be or your designer clothing, it won’t look right if your skin looks dry, weathered, or has unsightly blemishes.
Take care of your skin by drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet, and getting exercise at least once each week.
Get a Bra Assessment
“When you have good undergarments on, you feel more…juicy!” Andrea exclaims! The truth is that gravity and age effects many things, including our breasts. Our old bra style and size might not work for the body shape we have today.
The right bra and other undergarments will make everything else you wear look better and will make you feel better about how you look! Nearly all lingerie and department stores offer a professional bra measuring session at no charge, so why not take advantage of that?!
Andrea shows Margaret some of her favorite bags and shoes. It’s obvious that Margaret is having a little bag envy in this video, so be sure to watch it!
